What would cause my brake lights to stay on?

Well i have good news it is probably just the gromet that goes on the brake pedal arm that releases the switch to turn on the brake lights... However i also have bad news... it is a bitch to replace sorry for my language but when you go and replace it you will see what i mean also if your car has cruise control then you will have two holes so to plug with a gromet.
