New bumper covers need paint

My car bumpers are cracked and need replaced. Got some new plastic replacements that need painted. How can I do an acceptable job without spending a fortune on paint, hardeners, sealers, etc?

We have some experience with paint, but this time they are quoting costs in excess of $700.00 just for the coatings. Frankly, this car isn't worth that much. What are the consequences of just leaving the covers unpainted, showing their original black beyond the fact they won't match the car?

Hi Tom, there really are no consequences leaving them black. As far as painting them, if you are willing to let them black, I would just get a few cans of paint made for plastic that matches your car. That's the cheapest thing to do. You can't use regular paint. It needs to have a flex additive in it, otherwise, anytime you push on the plastic and it flexes, the paint will crack.

Also, if you have a paint sprayer, use a single-stage urethane paint with a flex additive. That is the cheapest way I know if to do it that way.

I attached the directions below for the removal and replacement of the front and rear covers.
