Just installed new brakes. When I'm not pressing the pedal, there is a constant scraping noise. Any ideas?

Hi Lister,

Can you provide a little more detail about the repair you made? Did you put all four on or just the front/rear?

Also, did you replace pads and rotors?

Did you remove the rotors at all? When you reinstalled them did you clean the hub face and rotor face where they mount to each other? If not, this can cause the rotor to have what is called runout and this will cause scraping of the pad.

The last most likely thing is the parking brake. Did you adjust the parking brake on the rear? If not, this can be making contact. Here is the adjustment procedure.

I just did the pads. Rear ones. It's a RWD car if that makes a difference. I did no adjustment. But when I apply my emergency brake on a hill, it doesn't seem to work that well...

Okay. You definitely need to adjust the parking brake shoes. When you say you did the rear pads, I assume you did the pads and not the shoes? It appears you have rear brake pads and rotors and the parking brake are shoes that ride on the inside of the rotor. I am sure this is what is scrapping and needs adjusting. Also, if they are not adjusted properly, they will not hold the weight of the vehicle when the parking brake is applied.

The adjustment procedure was attached to the last post but here is a guide that shows how to replace them. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks
