Possible neutral safety switch issue

I get off work and try to start my vehicle of course it wont. Try to jump and fuse pops up on the console. Unhook the cables and turn the key and it starts. But going down the road its running 4,100 rpm's at 60 miles per hour. Normally its around 2,100 rpm's at 60. Was told that it might the neutral safety switch. Is this culprit or something else?

Hi Maximus,

Can you tell me which fuse popped? The only reason is, the neutral safety switch would not cause this.

If the transmission range sensor (as it is called on auto trans) is just there to make sure the transmission is in park or neutral before it allows the engine to start. This will not cause the RPM issue that you are seeing so let's start with what fuse that was and we can go from there.

Also, if you can find out what codes you have (assuming you have some) because that will help us figure this out. Thanks.
