Need to swap a amb to atw would it work. don't know if a 99 atw fits on mine mine is a amb.

The engines themselves should be the same. The coding is needed if you do internal work on the engine. However, if you need to make sure the new engine also came from an automatic. The crankshaft is a different size between the auto and manual transmission.
