Need the procedute to retime a Mitsubishi 2.5

I was changing the timing belt on a 1998 Dodge Avenger with the Mitsubishi motor. I used the puller on the crankshaft pulley and I forgot to put the bolt back in so I took off the timing belt pulley also. Now my marks are no longer in alignment. How do I reset the timing on this car?

So I can just move the camshafts and the crankshaft manually to the mark?

Yes, they must be pointing in the correct direction. My concern is that this is an interference engine. You must make sure the marks are correct or it could cause internal engine damage.

Is it possible to get the cam or crank marks 180 degrees off?

Not as long as they are pointing at the timing marks provided.

Thank you for all the help. I got it retimed and it runs great. Now I have a major oil leak from the rear valve cover. I used new Fel-Pro gaskets and torqued the bolts to 31 in lbs. Any suggestions?

Did you use a rubber or cork gasket? Before you replaced the cover, did you check to make sure none of the bolt holes were stretched and in need of making flat again?
