navara struggling to get above 2000 revs in 5th gear

hello guys need help with my navara 2002 3.0l diesel turbo. she is struggling in 5th gear to climb above 2000-2500 revs 1st to 4th gear is fine, however only recently during a trip in australia for 2 hours i noticed that on the return journey the car was struggling in 5th gear... i am due to change the fuel filter tomorrow hoping that this will clear the problem... is there anything else i should look out for? the engine is also a recon should i add with 2,000miles on. it was serviced only 2 months ago with fresh oil filter and fresh air filter, just never changed the fuel filter... hardly use the ute just gets a run on the weekends and on the odd day... i have also heard that there is a micro filter in the primer pump somewhere that should be cleaned?

Start with changing the fuel filter and check a fuel sample for contaminants, check all induction pipes are tight when you free rev the engine the induction hose swells up a bit, this is a basic test to see if the turbo is producing pressure.

fuel filter changed checked the fuel and the filter was fairly clean with very little deposits, the lines stay taught at idle, I'm going to flood some injector cleaner through the system, anything else i should check to see if it helps?

Any codes in the system, is the turbo producing boost, any induction leaks?

haven't coded it as don't have OBE reader... how would i check if the turbo was boosting?

To get an accurate reading you need to fit a pressure gauge up stream of the turbo and do a specific run test, but as a rule of thumb test hold the induction hose after the turbo squeeze it a little and run the engine, give it a rev and it should swell up as pressure builds, not the most accurate test but this will tell you if the turbo is creating any boost pressure at all.
