My idle air control valve replaced

I changed IAC today for low idle in park and it would stall. After replacement started the car the idle was between 1500 and 2000 rpm so i did the manual reset when started it the rpm's adjusted but then check engine light came on of which had never come on in the first place went to AutoZone they turned it off and it never came back on but now at idle its a hard idle but the rpm's are still normal between 800 and 1000 it is just behaving strangely. what do i do?

I'm not sure what you mean by a hard idle. 800 - 1000 rpm's is where your idle should be at. It might be a little higher when you first start the car and the car won't quite have the power it has when warmed up. This is due to the fact that your car is operating in open loop. This means the your vehicles Power-train Control Module(PCM)a.k.a."computer" isn't using any of the engine's input sensors, but instead is running a pre programmed map. It will even retard the timing a little bit so that the flame front will still be burning as the exhaust valve opens and will take this down the exhaust pipe. This is done to try to bring the catalytic converters up to operating temperature as soon as possible. Once the PCM goes into closed loop, about two minutes or so after you first start the car, the rpm's at idle should come down a little bit.
