My ac clutch plate flew apart

You'll have to replace the entire compressor.
Have an a/c professional to evacuate the system, change the orifice tube, accumulator and compressor.then Vacuum the system, check it for leaks add PAG oil, then recharge the system.

I know that but what caused it to fly apart. I have already ordered the compressor and it is a replacement part and the high pressure line connects differently so had to order that too. Good thing I have 2 sons that can fix it. Have a pump down pump and recycle container. have pag oil and freon 134A. I just want to know what caused it.

Sometimes the parts just fatigue and this can cause them to fly apart. Although its rare enough, it does happen. Usually it makes such a racket that it gets noticed before if flies apart. However, I'll seen then run quietly, yet still the fall apart as well.

This was a rand new clutch plate off a brand new compressor. It lasted one hour. We just changed the clutch plate, as we did 2 1/2 years ago but that was a used one. It has something to do with the magnets repelling the lock-up ring.
