Good evening,

I attached a picture of the sensor locations for you to view and a guide to help walk you through the repairs with diagrams below to show you how on your car.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-an-oxygen-sensor

What are the codes? Rarely O2 sensor codes require replacement of the actual sensor.

Okay, you need catalytic converters. The precious metals are worn out in the converters. It is not the sensors at all, it is the catalytic converters.

I have had P0154 P0135 I have replaced those sensors with honda sensors. The check engine light is still on. I took it to a shop and they told me they could not find the problem. They tested the sensors and there in good condition they said the problem could be because there is no power to my oxtgen sensors. Is there a fuse Relay someplace that I can check? or is there something else there can be checked?

Ok for code P0135 check these fuses. Fuse number 4 (af sensor) 15 amp in the fuse box under dash. Fuse number 19 40 amp in the fuse box under the hood. Fuse number 23 7.5 amp in fuse box under dash. This could also be what is causing the P0154 code too. Let me know what you find and we will go from there. Here is how you can change the sensor in the diagrams below.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Ok now I need you to unplug the mass air flow sensor and use the pic below to check ohms between term 3 and 4 on the sensor not the wiring harness. Is the ohms between 2.1 and 2.9? If not then replace the mass air flow meter.

You have an open circuit in the wiring somewhere. Check to make sure the wiring is good at the sensor, there is no corrosion...

There are two sensors. The air fuel ratio sensor is located at the A-pipe and the secondary oxygen sensor in the catalytic converter. It depends which code was stored. I would use oem parts.

My engine light came on and the Honda mechanic said that I needed both up stream oxygen sensors replaced and recommended a fuel injection service. He reset the engine light and hasn't come on again in 6 months. How much should I expect to pay to have both up stream oxygen sensors replaced can I do it myself?

Thanks

If the light hasn't come back on in that amount of time, chances are everything is working properly. As far as the sensors are concerned, they are about 80 dollars each and take about 20 minutes each to replace. However, as I mentioned, if the light has remained off, they should be fine. Here is a guide to help walk you through the repair with diagrams below to show you how on your car.

Hi,
I have 2003 Honda Accord V6. Recently my Check Engine light came up. On checking the code, it showed P2251/P0134 which are for Bank1 Sensor 1. I was able to locate this sensor as on the backside of the engine.
I tried to open it, but I ran into problem when the sensor cable which is plugged with a male/female coupling did not come out. There is verly little space to move your hand and it seems to be very tight.
Please suggest any tool or how I can take this out?
I even tried to pull the coupling for the front sensor 2, but that too was very tight and could not open.

Quick response is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Himanshu, Thank you for the donation. There is no special tools for unplugging the terminal. The wireharness side has a locking tab that has to be pressed to release the lock before you can pull the connector off. Sometime sand or dirt gets between the tab rendering it impossible to release the lock. I would use compressed air to blow out any foreign material before pressing the tab.

I will try to put some lubricant. And just to confirm, the Bank 1 Sensor 1 is located on the back side of the engine, right?

Hi,

Usually when O2 sensors shows a malfunction, cleaning seldom works.

Before replacement, diagnosis should be carried to eliminate the possibilities of wiring or other factors causing the problem.

Those are both codes for Bank 1 A/F sensor heater. See diagnostic chart below

DTC P1166: A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) Heater Circuit Malfunction

1. Reset the ECM/PCM.
2. Start the engine.

Is DTC P1166 indicated?

YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at C102 (located under the under-hood fuse/relay box), A/F Sensor relay, the A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) and the ECM/PCM.

3. Check the following fuses:

- POWER SEAT (20 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
- No.4 ECU (ECM/PCM) CRUISE CONTROL (15 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- No.6 LAF HEATER (20 A) in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.

Are any of the fuses blown?

YES - Repair short in the wire between the A/F Sensor relay and the fuses.

NO - Go to step 4.
4. Measure voltage between ECM/PCM connector terminals B19 and B20, 30 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON (II).

Is there battery voltage?

YES - Substitute a known-good ECM/PCM and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original ECM/PCM.

NO - Go to step 5.

5. Measure voltage between ECM/PCM connector terminals C13 and B20.

Is there battery voltage?

YES - Go to step 6.

NO - Go to step 10.

6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Disconnect ECM/PCM connector B (25P).
8. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
9. Connect ECM/PCM connector terminal B16 to body ground with a jumper wire, then measure voltage between ECM/PCM connector terminals B19 and B20.

Is there battery voltage?

YES - Substitute a known-good ECM/PCM and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original ECM/PCM.

NO - Repair open or short in the wire between A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) and ECM/PCM (B19).

10. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
11. Disconnect ECM/PCM connector B (25P) and the A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) 4P connector.

12. Check for continuity between A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) 4P connector terminal No.3 and body ground.

Is there continuity?

YES - Repair short in the wire between the A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) and ECM/PCM (B19).

NO - Go to step 13.

13. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
14. Measure voltage between ECM/PCM connector terminals B16 and B20

Is there battery voltage?

YES - Repair open in the wire between the ECM/PCM (C13) and the A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) or Secondary HO(2)S (Sensor 2).

NO - Go to step 15.

15. Check for continuity in the wires between A/F Sensor and the fuses.

Is there continuity?

YES - The wires are OK. Replace the A/F Sensor relay.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the A/F Sensor relay and the fuses.

Okay,

Chances are that either the sensor was loose and came out, the pipe rotted out and it came out or the threads are defective in the pipe.

I'm replacing the exhaust, from sleve (that is in-between the manifold and the cat) to the back. I have the cat disconnected and it is attached only by the o2 sensor wires. Does the o2 sensor unplug or do you need to remove the nut at the base (there is no room to get a wrench on it with any leverage) The sensor appears to have three seems where it might pull off/unplug, but I have been unsuccessful in seperating it by pulling on it with a vice grip. I am about to mark the wires and then cut them and then splice them back together.

I live in Minnesota and there has be nothing about this exhaust removal that has been easy. To start I'm doing it with jack stands and really wishing I had a lift. I'm replacing the Cat because I stripped the nuts on the back of the Cat even after WD 40 and a torch. I'd just cut the bolts with a die grinder, but the bolts are welded into the cat. So the nuts have to come off or you need to buy a new catalytic converter....Nice!!!!

Everything on the web is very matter of fact in the description or removing the cat. With vivid descriptions like "disconnect the o2 sensor from the converter" or it is not mentioned at all. Disconnecting the sensor is either so simple that it warrants no explanation or the other left that out to frustrate a weekend mechanic like me.

With me a picture is worth a 1,000 words where does it unplug? and if that nut at the base has to come off is there a special tool and what does the tool look like.

My check eng light came on - AutoZone says it is code P0141 - heater for bank 1, sensor 2 oxygen sensor is bad. This car only has two sensors - one on either side of the cat. Hanes manual shows a 3rd sensor at the bottom of the exh manifold - I'm 100% positive there is no sensor there. Which O2 sensor should I focus on?

You have two sensors. What Haynes is referring to is for V6 application (3 sensors). Bank 1 sensor 2 is the one after the cat. Before you replace the sensor, check and make sure that the wiring is not damaged. If you don't see any damage on the wires, then replace the sensor. Bosch PN 13176 or equivalent. Here is a guide to help walk you through and the oxygen sensor locations in the diagrams below.
