Guys...I have a question about the Tribute motor mount(s). I recently went for an oil change, where I was told my motor mounts were very worn. While the car was raised on the rack, the mechanic pushed up on the engine block. When he did this, there was approximately one inch of vertical play. However, it honestly looked to me that both joint connections of the motor mount was made to allow a small amount of play (hydraulic joint). I was told replacement of the motor mount would be at least $600. I thought of getting a second opinion from my dealership, but I don't feel good about asking them for a free check. Can you tell me if the motor mount(s) on the Tribute are hydraulic and made to allow a small amount of vertical play? Thanks.

Even if this was the case, 1 inch is way too much play. Your engine should not move hardly at all, but with worn motor mounts it will be able to give and can cause harm to other components. An "oldschool" way of temp. fixing the problem is to chain the engine down. This will hold for a temp. time, until you can pay for proper repairs. Estimate is below for replacing one of your motor mounts. The part is much more expensive then the labor, so $600 is a fair price to pay for replacing both motor mounts.
