ive just changed an old stereo for a newer one, and noticed a warning light on the dash has come on that says HOLD, can you please tell me what this means?

Hi merick,

" HOLD " is for the transmission and it is used for holding the trans to prevent shifting, ie locking it in one specific speed.

Check if you had inadvertently depressed the HOLD switch on the console.
