My friend has a 1994 mitsubishi galant with a 2.4 DOHC engine with automatic trans with about 260,000 miles. I do all the work on there cars and always use the best parts and oil, but the one time I didn't have time to change there oil they brought it to a dealer and had them do it. About 1000 miles later the car started knocking in the top of the engine. My question is, could cheap oil have caused this, and is their anything I can do to adjust the valves?

You can mike the camshaft for wear and replace all the shims for start.
