over heating problem

1997 mitsubishi eclipse 2.0 DOHC 140,000k MT

Today on my way to school my car began to overheat so i turned around to go back to the store for water. As i turned around it went dead. I allowed it to cool for about 15 minutes and added some coolant/water mixture i had in the trunk. Afterwards i tried to start, but the engine would not crank. Any possible ideas


Its probably hydrolocked-try removing all the plugs and check for water in the cylinders. Is your battery and connections good?

Lets do below to rule out the headgasket/head and block.

Have it block and pressure tested-do the block first to pinpoint a combustion leaking into the cooling system or a gas analyzer to sniff for hydrocarbons at the radiator fill neck.

Pressure test: do not do a pressure test if there's leakage at the headgasket this might cause coolant into the cylinders and lock it up or bend a connecting rod if cranked thereafter. The headgasket should be repaired before doing the pressure test.

so u think it is a blown head gasket?

The only way to tell is thru the block and pressure tests.

on average what would be a normal price for these tests?
