My ECU

What is the problem with your car? Why do you think your car needs to have codes pulled? Is your service engine soon light on? This is all things we need to know before we can give you any advice.

This is the problem.

The car was not driven for a year, ( I was in Afghanistan fighting the war).

When I returned I gave a boost to the vehicle.

Once I did that my check engine light turned on.

I have a gauge that monitors the voltage on the vehicle.

When I turn on the vehicle the gauge reads 12 volts with the brake and battery light on.

Once I am on the road driving, the volt gauge jumps from 12 to 14volts.

At 14 volts the brake and battery light turns off.

Then the it goes from 14 to almost 16 volts and again the brake and battery light turns on.

I replaced the battery, spark plugs and wire, also the alternator.

Now the check engine light was cleared.

But not for long. The check engine light came back on.

When I turn on the vehicle it goes again to 12 volts.

I have a to rev up the engine so that the voltage can stay at 14 volts.

I took the car to where they checked the electrical part of the vehicle and they said that after trying three diffrent machines they could not talk to the computer.

And that is when they said that I should replace the ECU.

Hey. I just bought a 98 eclipse about 5 months ago. It was my first car and all so I was exited. Second day it stopped working. What happened was that the car would turn on and turn off. Basically after 3 months of it being in the shop, we figured out it was the ECU. I got a rebuilt ecu from a place in Florida for 300 bucks. We put the ecu in the car and it still didn't work. So the mechanic gave up so we took the car to the Mitsubishi dealership. We sent the ecu back to florida but they told me that the ecu is fine and sent it back. Still same problem. Then they took the ecu out of a different eclipse and put it in mine, ran great, put my ecu in her car, it wouldn;t start. Anyways, we sent the ecu back and luckily the Florida people sent us a different ecu. That fixed the problem. Anyways, I've heard a lot of eclipses have had ecu problems so that will probably fix the problem. What I would do is just send your ecu to one of these places, and have them rebuild yours, it costs 100 bucks plus shipping but then they tell u if something burnt out on it. Good luck

Sounds like it could very well be your ECU. I don't know aboout where you live but these car's are a dime a dozon in Alabama also I know about The war in the middle East. Fought there myself. I would look to see if you could pick one up used cheap for a junk yard. That's what I did.
