my car is over heating

check your cooling fans and make sure they are working. start your car with hood open stand there and wait to see if they kick on.

Turn on the a/c and see if the fan (s) come on, that will at least tell you if the fan motors are good. Then it will be down to the temp controlled end of it.

I have a 99 mitsu eclipse. The radiator fan is working but the ac condenser fan isn't working. The fuse for the condenser fan had blown. But replacing the fuse, did not fix the fan. Now my question is how do i know if it is the fan motor or the thermostat that is gone bad.

Is it possibly for me to just replace the fan motor bymyself?

Also since my car has 2 fans (one for the radiator and another for the condenser), does it have 2 thermostats too? or only the radiator fan works with a thermostat and the ac fan just turns on when the condenser turns on.

The fuse blowing usually means the fan is drawing too much amperage.Does the fan spin by hand? If so does it feel smooth? You can try hooking up jumper wires and grounding the fan and manually applying power to see if it works.The a/c fan is triggered by a pressure switch in the a/c system, the cooling fan is triggered by the PCM via the temp sensor.If the car only overheats when sitting in traffic, the fan is most likely the culprit, when t-stat sticks they usually overheat rather quickly

Thanks for the email. So basically, if the fan motor has gone bad, can I just replace the motor, or do I have to replace the motor, shroud & fan assembly.
Also i was able to unsrew all 4 nuts for the fan, but couldn't get the fan out, since there is a big hose from the radiator running over it. Do I have to drain the coolant, remove the hose, replace the fan, put the hose back & refill the coolant, or is there any simpler way to just replace the motor.
Also what should be a fair labor charge for such a job at a local shop assuming that I can get only the replacement motor and not the entire assembly.

The local shop has quoted me $250 for the replacement motor including labor. Is this a fair quote.

Doesnt sound too bad. Sometimes they are just the motor and others it is the entire assembly.

Just today, i noticed that the cable (coming from under the radiator) that connects to the motor cable via a connector has been damaged too, with one internal wire completely cut. Is this a simple fix, in which the damaged cable is replaced, or is it complicated that a lot of cabling has to be replaced due to this small damage at one end. Also what would be a ball part estimate to fix this.

A small amount of damamge to a wiring harness can be repaired. Price depends on how easy it is to access the wires to repair them.

The fan on the passenger side runs when I turn on the A/C and also runs when the engine gets hot. The fan on the driver side doesn't ever seem to come on. Could this be my problem? Are both fans run off the same motor?

Yes that fan should come and off as needed to keep your car cool.
