Hi,
I really impressed with this forum which has very good experts to provide correct, accurate and authentic information.
Currently I am facing the problem with my 91 mitsubishi mirage (1.5 Ltr engne) with 118k miles.
Yesterday after taking exit from interstate and was slowing down to reach stop light, suddenly engine died without any noise. I could realise that engine has died and within 100 ~ 150 fts. car came to a halt with very little brake (Anyway it was slow because of stop light at exit)
My mechanic told me that timing belt is broken and 90% of times engine goes bad and does not work.
He told me to put new timing belt and then check whether engine works.
I am not sure whether mitsubishi engines are of interferance type and if it is that way, then how good engine will be.
I would like to run this car again.
So my question would be what should I do?
How good chances are for my engine to be fine with little damage? Can I run this car with damage to engine valves? Is there any way to check whether valves are fine before changing timing belt.?
Also can a small mechanic check compression of engine and what will be the approximate cost?
I love my car , so hoping to get some positive reply.
Please reply soon.
