[b]hi there, i have a mitsubishi mirage, 1989, mileage 189000km and am wondering if i have a bigger problem than what im hoping it is. i flattened my battery leaving lights on overnight. so i had it jumpstarted but then as i tried to drive down the road it wasnt getting any revs up or showing any km's on the speedometer. the lights were on and it would drive but only just. then when i slowed down to turn around it just completely putted out.
i got the AA to come and take a look and when he tried to jumpstart it it would only just run, struggling to get revs. he checked the choke for something and said no that was fine. as soon as he removed the jumperleads, the car wouldnt idle and it putted out again. the aa guy said that i would need to change the battery because there was acid on it that was so bad it may have eaten through the terminal and that would probably need to be replaced also.
so i got a battery that worked fine and replaced the old one which allowed the car to run oookay, revs were normal again and so was the speedometer. but it sounded a wee bit strange. i drove to a couple of places not far away had the car stopped for a few hours between the 2 places and when i started the car again it would start fine and drive a bit better each time. however, yesterday morning after not touching the car for nearly 24hrs i went to start it and it started, but it was running strangely, i pulled over and was about to stop the car when it just stopped itself anyway. when i went to turn the keyit wouldnt start, so i jumpstarted it and it ran ok for a minute, then horribly, like it was going to conk out any second, it got me home about 2km away but as soon as i got in the driveway it began to shudder and as soon as i slowed down to basically no revs, it just stopped. i tried jumpstarting it once more, and it was ok, revs were up it was fine until the jumperleads were taken off, all revs would just go down and then it would just stop altogether. sorry to ramble on but i am trying to remember the order of events so perhaps you may be able to work this one out because at this stage i cannot get the car into a repair centre to be looked at...so yeah!
