CAR: 1998 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE - 2.0 NON TURBO - 84K MILES - AUTOMATIC.

PROBLEM: The car hesitates and sputters when accelerating. Wants to leach forward when at a stop and tends to stall when trying to accelerate from the stopped position.

WORK DONE: I have replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator, Fuel Filter, Spark Plugs/Wires, PCV, all Vaccum Lines, Throttle Positon Sensor and I removed the Fuel Injectors and verified they work and are not clogged. There are no computer codes. I am at a complete loss. Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong?

Hey Mitche2001,
A faulty/biased O2 sensor would cause that condition. Additionally some other things to check would be the output of the coilpack (a nice white/blue spark or w/ a kv meter if ya got one), coolant temp sensor may be faulty, creating a lean mixture causing the skip/hesitation. Let me know!

Chris,
Thanks for your help. When I went to pull the plug wires again, I found them covered with oil. I had developed an oil leak into the spark plugs. I replaced the valve cover gasket and bought new wires. All the problems have been solved.
Thanks again,
Mitch
