Engine Mechanical problem

should i repair? my mechanic says i need a new timing chain. he also said that it might not solve my problems as i could have further issues with a cylinder. does that sound right? we drove the car home, no odd noises or lights and turned the car off in the driveway. when we went back out to start it a day later, the engine ligts came on and it wouldn't start.
