1989 Other Mitsubishi Models my starwagon is afraid of hills

Engine Performance problem
1989 Other Mitsubishi Models 4 cyl Automatic

hi there, i have a starwagon van
i get pre egnition
bluish black smoke sometimes
car travells 4,000 revs when doing 85+km hour on fwy (almost like its not going into the last gear.
has very little kick back
chokes to the point of stopping on hills.
please help me my husband wont let a machanic see it or look for a manual (too much pride) but i need it for the kids
