Engine Performance problem

I've just moved to the foothills and now have to go up hill both ways.
I have a Mitsubishi Colt - on the flat I have no problems but most times going up hill once i get to 80km hour the fuel supply light comes on and the car starts jerking.
Slowing down to 60 km seems to help but sometimes it feels like the car is going to stall. The car has been serviced and had new points, fuel filter installed.
Any ideas what is causing this / what needs replacing would be a help
