2003 Mitsubishi Montero Thermostat or Sensor

I drove my auto 35 to 40 miles with the temp gauge on H and I took the car to the shop and they said it's thermostat and replaced the thermostat. When I left the temp gauge was still on H. Now they are saying it's a sensor problem and I just wonder did I need the thermstat at all.

Are you actually overheating if not could be the coolant temperature sensor or the engine temperature gauge switch is out of calibration or the gauge itself

well if replacing the thermostat did not fix the issue then most likely it did not need replaced. sounds like the shop is just "guessing" and replacing random cooling system parts to get more money out of you. may want to check into a different shop..

I've replaced the gauge, temp sending unit and ec part very expensive. I've been told it is the module on the back side of the cluster and it has to be sent off to a mitsubishi repair company ad send it back and they will fix it and send back. cost is $300 plus. I'm looking for an aftermarket remanufacturing company who is supposed to have better success than mitsubishi?? I will keep you advised as to what I find.
