We were on vacation, everything was fine and then we made a stop and our truck wouldn't start again. Someone jumped us off, we replaced the battery and the truck began to idle low and stall at stops. The alternator was checked and readings were fine. We filled up and added a fuel treatment and things seemed fine for a day. Next morning, truck wouldn't start again. We jigled the ground cable on the battery and the truck started. Again, it was idling low and stalling at stops, so we replaced the ground cable to the battery. This did not fix the problem. Any suggestions? The truck seems to run fine, other than the above mentioned issues.

Probably the base idle needs to be reset. Remove the negative battery terminal, wait for 5-6 minutes and refit the terminal.
Start the car and let it idle for 10 minutes and this procedure should relearn the computer and the stepper motor. Sometimes it takes a few key cycles to completely relearn

Cheers.

Here are a few guides that will help

were there any codes??

there is an idle control valve that may be failing. it needs to be monitored by a shop to see what it is being commanded to do.

The battery in my 2002 Mits. Montero Sport died. I replaced it, and immediately the car would not idle.
I checked all of the vacuum hoses, but they were intact. I disconnected the battery to see if it would reboot the computer.
After that it ran ok for that afternoon and the next morning. However, the second afternoon, the battery was dead again. when i jumped it, it would not idle at all.
The mechanic is telling me that the problem is the alternator, but I am skeptical of that diagnosis.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi
The alternator would help explain why new battery went dead and with low voltage to ECM idle could be effected. Place a volt meter across bat terms. engine running if it does not read 14.5 v or higher then alt output is in sufficant.
Thanks for Donate

No its not the same I suggest you get a helper that knows a little about cars and also get a repair manual-The IACV is to maintain the idle speed at all times
