1997 Mitsubishi Montero Head Gasket

I have 97 montero sport with 201,000 miles. It overheats with bubles in the radiator overflow resorvior. It has white fumes and water leak from tail. Mechanic told me that it needs head gasket replaced and will cost $1700. Is there any cheaper way to do it?. Is it worth to spend so much on the vehicle with over 200, 000 miles? Any body knows a good affordable mechanic in my aea? My Zip code is 30114.
