I have a 1992 Mitsubishi Montero LS with a 3.0 12 valve 6 cylinder I have timed it, it is firing on one when suppose to timing marks line up. the car still only idles a 300 rpm and very rough, backfires through intake won't run when put in gear, even if you over rev it still kills The distributor has a broken bolt hole where the cap bolts down but a zip tie is holding it down could it be crank sensor in distributor? maybe the cap not being bolted tight? I am at a loss

Hi blmac56, Thank you for the donation. If you had removed and reinstalled the timing belt, I would suggest rechecking the cam and crankshaft marks again.

If the timing is ok, you need to 1. Check the ignition timing. A timing light is requireed. IGNITION TIMING NOTE: Perform all adjustments with engine at normal operating temperature, cooling fan and accessories off, transmission in Park or Neutral, and front wheels in straight- ahead position. Set curb idle speed to specification. 1. Locate ignition timing adjustment connector. Connect jumper wire between ignition timing adjustment connector and ground. Check ignition basic timing. 2. If ignition basic timing is not within specification, loosen distributor (or crank angle sensor on engines with dual coil assembly) and rotate to adjust timing if necessary. Remove jumper wire from ignition timing adjustment connector. Check the spark plugs, wires and distributor rotor and cap. 3. Check idling speed. Adjustment can be made with the idle adjust screw. You might need to clean the throttle body and idle adjust screw air passage. You can try using a large washer to hold the broken part of the distributor, making some indents if necessary.
