Hi I drive a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage with 169,000 miles. I took my car to NTB to have my struts checked because my car was riding rough and they gave my an estimate for the cost and what would have to be done. However I took it to another shop and they said my rack and pinion was leaking. I was told that if I was to have my front struts replaced, that the rack and pinion would have to be replaced at the same time. Is this true? Would I have to have both the rack and pinion replaced and the struts changed at the same time or could I just have my struts replaced and have the rack and pinion done later?

Hi there,

It is not mandatory to replace the rack at the same time, but if the leak is bad you may damage the pump with low fluid, if the leak is minor you can do it at a later date.
