2000 Mitsubishi Lancer rotor replacement

Actually, it is only known as a Lancer. When it comes to brake components, stay with direct fit parts. Please don't try ones from another model. And to the best of my knowledge (30 years in the business) I have never seen anyone make them.

Okay, you got me. I just spent 15 minutes checking all of my suppliers web sites and can only find them for 2002 and newer. Have you tried a dealer? Let me know. I have a good friend that works at a Mitsubishi dealer. I can get with him tomorrow. Email me back before 12 noon eastern time if possible. I'll get this figured out.

This is how you need to get me. I called my buddy. As far as the rotors, not enough are sold, so aftermarket manufacturers don't produce them. After speking with my friend, I found that they are still available through the dealer. However, he needed the VIN number of the vehicle to get the correct ones. He also added that there are several to pick from and that somehow (like you asked) the Mirage is mixed in with them. Regardless, they need a VIN (vehicle identification number) to identify which size your car will take.

My recommendation to you is to contact the dealer near you with the VIN number and have them order them for you. If you run into trouble and would like my help, let me know and get have the vin for me.

Keep in mind, since you need to order these from a dealer, chances are they are going to be expensive.

sorry for the delay. I thought I'd get an alert or something when you answered. Now the only number that I see on my vehicle that is a 17 digit figure is this: JMYSTCS5A1U000206 . I quoted this to someone before and they said this wasn't it, so I don't know what else to look for. Let me tell you now, I am actually located on a small caribbean island called Dominica, but this is the first sniff of hope that I've gotten that I may get the rotors.
I checked dealers and mechanics here with no luck. If your friend can hook me up, I'll pay the price man...shipping/retail etc. I need those rotors.
Tell me what you think of the figure I gave you, will it work? And if it does and your friend can find them, tell me how to pay him so I can get them sent here.

I'll give you the rotors if you get me a job where you are. Hell, here in Pittsburh PA, we have already been in 20 degree range and I already driven through snow! I hate it!!! LOL

That sounds like a vin. To make sure before I call him, check on the driver's side of the dash board near the windshield. THere will be a steel plate with the vin number in it. Also, your insurance policy or title should have it listed.

Any luck with checking the vin? It will be on your title for the vehicle. I was just wondering if you found it and called the number I sent. I don't know about the time difference between where you are and I am. I was wondering if it is a problem. THe parts dept won't be open until Monday now, so let me know.

From what I can tell, there are several options and they need the vin to identify which one you need. Do you have the title for the car?

To me that looks correct, but it isn't coming up for him. Recheck it for me and let me know. If you have the title, check it, check again on the driver's side of the dashboard near windshield, along the driver's side door... to confirm. I will be happy to call him again on Monday for you.

Also, do you still have the owner's manual for the vehicle? If so and we sill can't get the vin to work, I'll call the manufacturer for you and raise hell. It's the least I can do. (LOL)

Nothing yet buddy. I'm checking with the guy I bought it from to see if he has any information, so I'm waiting on that. I doubt it'll turn up anything, but we'll see. This should be easier shouldn't it?

Okay, it's bee n a while but I'm still stuck. I had bought this car from a rental 'agency' here. I called the owner about the VIN, and he just told me what I already know, which is where to look for it. I don't have any other numbers to give.

Are you sure we can't estimate the rotor size and do something? I'm sure you've pulled off some wild stuff like that before eh.

Don't worry. I won't give up until we get you rotors. However, I hate to guess with brakes. That isn't a part that you want to be wrong about. I will call him again tomorrow and expaine that is the vin that is on the car.

I usually never ask this question, but are you in the United States? If not, maybe there is some kind of difference in VIN's. I doubt it, but who knows. Also, I need you to measure the diameter of the rotor. Let's see what we can do. I'll call again tomorrow. I'll be in touch with you.

Okak, hear is what I found. The vin can't be correct. According to my findings, the 10th digit, 1, indicates the vehicle is a 2001 not a 2000. Next, the last 8 digits should be sufficient to identify the vehicle via Mit. on line system. It shows that the car is a 2001 mitsubishi mirage and has a junked title.

I'm not sure what is going on other than the vin is wrong or someone sold you a car and switched the vin plate on the dash for some reason.

Let me know what you find. My buddy checked this himself today, so I'm confident that what he says is correct.

Thanks for that. Hey I'll have to get someone to measure the rotor and see, but that won't happen till end of week. As for that mess about with the VIN, I have no idea what that's about. I live in Dominica (an island in the caribbean), I was told by the former owner that he bought hte vehicle from a car dealership which bought it from Japan. Could some foul play be in it? I really don't know. I trusted the seller because of word of mouth about his reputation. I am realizing that maybe I've got screwed. Anyway I'll work on that...thanks again for your tremendous efforts to help.

By the way what does "junked" mean?

The VIN number that you have provided belongs to a car that has been destroyed from and accident, fire, vandals... The car shouldn't be on the road anymore. It should be in a salvage yard / junk yard not driveable. Something doesn't make sense here. However the 10th digit in your vin is the number one which indicates it is a 2001 model year not a 2000. The other part of the vin indicates it is a Mirage not a Lancer. I think you need to talk with the person you got it from and have him make things right. This could lead to a legal issue for you. Hell, if you can't get brake rotors for it because it has the wrong vin tag on the dash for a different year and model, something isn't right. As far as the car goes, it can't perform its intended purpose because you can't identify what parts to get. In the US, that is means for a full refund, and the dealer would be in a ton of trouble.

Please let me know how I can help. I'm really trying here and want you to get what you need and deserve. I'm not making accuations, but I have to question what you said, foul play.

Honestly, I can't think of any other reason you would have the vin plate for an 01 Mirage on a 2000 Lancer. Recheck it and we'll try again.

Nah I haven't. I talked to the guy who sold me the vehicle and he wouldn't accept that the VIN was wrong, just sort of dismissed it. In this part of the world there isn't much you can do with this sort of stuff you know. Much different from the US I know. Ultimately I'm going to sell it but the next driver will just inherit the problem which I'm not happy doing, but we'll see if I get lucky before then...some sort of miracle perhaps. How's the cold treating you there?

Long time no hear. Okay so I'm not making any progress here. The final avenue I think is to contact the manufacturer directly for information on the vehicle (using the VIN I guess). You had offered to do this one time, is that offer still open? If you're willing to do this the VIN again is:

I assume that those loads of zeros there were numbers and not letters as that's what they looked like. I didn't have anything else really to compare them to.

Remeber though the vehicle was bought in Japan, not in the US. I read somewhere that they're not as tightly regulated with regards to their VIN's as the US is. Hope you're still around. Take care.
