Engine Mechanical problem
1989 Mitsubishi Lancer 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

Hi,

Good day!

I'm from the Philippines, I learn lot of things from this website.

I have a problem with my car right now, Car wont start unless I pour a gasoline on a carburetor then stop the engine once the gasoline on a carburetor empty then when I try to start again car wont tart anymore. To start again need to pour again the gasoline on carburetor. Before I encounter the same problem, but after I replace the gasoline filter and pour some gasoline on a carboretor the car start and working perfectly. Now, Its happened again. Can you help me guys what should I do?

Do I need to replace the fuel pump?
How do I know if the fuel pump is really the problem?

I already replace the spark plug and cleaned the distribution cap for possible corrusion.

Thanks in advance and more power to you guys.

Hi there,

Remove the fuel line at the carby and connect a length of hose so it will sit in a container, crank the engine, if no fuel, i would be suspecting the fuel pump has failed, if you have fuel check the carby needle and seat valve, also try disconnecting the fuel line into the pump (is it mechanical or electrical?) and blow back into the tank to make suer that there is no blockage, start here.
