Engine Performance problem
2000 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I just got finished replacing the engine in a 2000 mitsubishi galant and it doesn't want to idle. Timing is right and runs fine when you put the gas to it. Is there a "learning" period on mitsubishi's like there is on older gm's and mercury? Anything would help thanks.

Hi there,

You need an OBD-11dlc scan tool to access the correct sections in the ECU to do this adjustment, do you have access to this equipment?

I think i can get a hold of one. I don't have much experience with them though. Can i take it on the interstate? Will the car go through its idle learn there or is a scanner the only way to get it right. Thanks for your help and time. Phil

Hi there,

From what i read it won't do a self re learn, the ECU is holding the idle memory of the previous engine and it is getting conflicting signals from the sensors on the new engine, a dealer should be able to do this easily, and i feel that above idle it will be fine.
