1999 Mitsubishi Galant CAMSHAFT SENSOR MALFUNCTION

I know where the senosor is and have put a new sensor in but i have still have the fault code telling me that the camshaft sensor circuit is malfunctioning. How do I fix this problem. Is this a circuit issue that i can solve or is this a PCM problem this seem tobe a fault that is kind of common in 1999.
