1998 Mitsubishi Galant Vibration when accelerating over 50

If your vibration is only on accel then you might have bad cv axles. They are more common on hondas and toyotas but ive seen them vibrate on alot of diff cars. You should go have your tires balanced first but if it get worse as you accel and then stops when u let off it is most likley a bent axle.

Thanks for your suggestion. Sounds to be right-on. However, if cv axle is bent, would you not feel the vibration in the steering? You do not feel any vibration in the steering - only the body of car. Could an engine mount cause this? I believe I am alright in that dept. but no harm in checking.

You will feel an axle vibration in the front of the car but not usualy through the steering. A motor mount is more of a bang and a jerk. To check your mounts start the car pull the e bake n hold the brake pedal tight then put it in drive and hit the gas pedal about 3/4 of the way down for a second. You will feel the motor jump and bang if you have bad mounts. Do the same in reverse to check the front mounts.
