1994 Mitsubishi Galant Water pump replacement

I am trying to replace my own water pump on a 1994 Mitsubishi Galant (2.4l SOHC). I cannot get the water pump pulleys off to access the rest of the lower timing belt cover bolts. Is there a trick or tip to removing these two pulleys (small one under a larger one)? It is really frustrating as I can't bare the thought of messing with the timing belt (removing the tensioner, etc.) but I can't even get the pulleys off to see where the rest of the pump bolts are.

The pulley I think you are talking about is held on by 4 bolts? You have to get a pulley holding tool or something to hold it with. Maybe a pipe wrench might work. Also it looks like you have to take the timing belt off anyway, maybe to get the rest of the water pump bolts off. HTH.

Remove coolant over flow tank remove upper engine mount jack engine up more more room

I used a jack to lift the engine. The oil pan is thick enough to be a place for jacking. Take off the front bracket, cause it restrict your access to the pulley bolts. Then use two wrenches the same size. With one wrench you can hold the pulley in place - just hold one of the bolts in a way like you gonna screw it in, with another wrench unscrew the neighbour bolt. Then do the same for the bolt, which you used for holding pulley, just rotate pulley 1/4 turn, and use next bolt to hold it. It is easy to unscrew three bolts, with the last one it a little tricky, but still possible. If you cannot take unscrewed pulley off, just jack the engine a little more, and it will go.
