2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor Acceleration Problem

I went to the mall today and on the way my vehicle drove fine. When I left to go home, the car started but when I hit the gas it hardly moved and my check engine light came on. This continued as I moved the car to an open area of the parking lot. I turned off the engine and restarted it. When I pressed the accelerator, the engine made no sound and the tachometer did not move. I turned the car off then on again, and the car drove home fine, except it hesitated once when I hit the gas, almost like it paused then down shifted. The check engine light is still on.
