1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse My lifters are noisey!!!!

If it were me. I would run some motor flush through the motor, then replace the oil and filter and add some Slick 50 or whatever you prefer for stuff like that.

I've had good luck with th PTF addivtives quieting down noisey rocker arm/valve assemblies. Your motor may be gunked up and maybe some parts of the top end aren't getting the oil flow that it needs.

If you decide to go further -- its easy to just visually check them, just takie off the valve cover. Then if you want to go further and you should, you need to get cylinder 1 at TDC, line up your timing marks and remove the whole assemble in order to look for wear. If you are not familar with the process -- go buy a $12 repair book -- it'll walk you through it.

I got an oil change with new oil filter and ran that gunk stuff still loud as ever...one of em must be loose..now its burning oil like crazy what could be a cause of that?

A stuck open valve would let oil pour in from the head, bad valve stem seals or worn rings all create oil consumption.

Good idea -- go buy a $20 compression tester and check each cylinder. That will tell you alot.

I must correct Monty on part of his reply, if you have a stuck valve this wont allow excess oil into the cylinder, you will have a chronic mis fire due to no compression, you will experience oil consumption via faulty guides& stem seals, this is most noticeable on cold starts as it will blow a cloud of blue smoke on start up, a leak down test or a wet & dry comp test will give a good indication of ring condition, i would also have the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge, check pressure hot and at 2,000 RPM if pressure is low, you will need to investigate this as well, if the results of you test show that the lash adjuster is faulty and if the flush has not cleared this problem the they will have to be replaced, i would be getting the leak down test done first along with the pressure test.

The oil problem was a leaky oil pan seal..the lifters are just worn or a cam lobe is wearing down..gonna have to put some money into it.

Thanks for the feed back, if you are concerned about cams, you can check the lift with a dial indicator, this you can compare with specs or the other valve lifts, my money would be on a faulty lash adjuster.

Great i let my nephew take my eclipse out and what does he do...goes drifting...He slid into a curb and bent my back tire sideways, trailing arm assembly (Non Axel), So i take the tire off and attempt to remove the bolt from the bushing that attaches the trailing arm to the frame and i got the nut off but the bolt wont come off...its stuck of something i try to wrench it and to wont budge...even use a bar on the end of the socket wrench for leverage...still nothing...Any ideas?
