Missing air intake assembly

I recently had an entire rebuild of my head done. I was made aware the risk of not having an intake assembly in place. Particulates scratching the cylinder walls, etc, the whole doomsday spiel. What I need to know is there a way to construct a make shift filter. Until I can get it repaired, (just paid $1,700.00 for the head rebuild, broke as a joke) just to make sure the engine isn't just chugging dust and random crud?

Clearly no filter system is the cause of this issue so they are correct. However, if you can't afford the entire new intake system then I would start by going to a junk yard. I am sure they have one that will fit your vehicle as Civics are very very common. The next step is to look for an aftermarket system that I am sure is cheaper then the stock setup.

Last resort is you need an air intake tube that connects to the intake with a hose clamp and then a filter that fits on the end of that hose. Clearly this is not desirable and there are better options but this is the bear minimum. However, leaving it with no filter should not be an option because the engine will fail.
