Mercury Villager 1994. There is a leak of fluid from under the van just behind drivers door. Looks to be coming from a joint in a hose. Feels like oil type fluid. What could this fluid be? Is it dangerous to drive like this?

Pretty much on only two things in that area (assuming it isn't being blown back to that area) is fuel or brake fluid. I would check the master cylinder. If low fill it. While one person lightly steps on the brake pedal, another one can watch for any fluid leaking. I see a fair amoung of cars here in the North coast with brake fluid leaks like this. It would be dangerous to drive if it is this.

Greenish. Definitely not gasoline.

Sounds more like coolant. Do you have rear heat?

I was really worried it was brake fluid. But even though it is leaking quite badly, the brake cylinder is still at max. On closer look, it looks a lot like washer fluid. The Villager does have a rear window washer. Does anyone know if the washer line passes down the drivers side of the car? The filler tank at the front is on the passenger side. There are 3 or 4 lines all together passing down the drivers side.

Yes, I finally have to agree with you. I believe it is coolant. I originally ruled it out because the pipe runs right to the back of the van. But I guess it feeds the heater somewhere back there.

Thanks
