i believe the thermostat is letting coolant by as the temp gauge never goes very high. i just need to know how hard it is to change to the thermostat. i'm pretty handy but don't want to get into a can of worms i can't get out of. is it reasonable for me to change the thermostat? or should i pay to have it done. i make about 70 dollars a day. so if i took a day off work to change it. i'd probably be ahead. is there a time deal for these auto mech to follow. I.E. a set time that it should take to change it.

I am not a mechanic but it should be easy. Follow the host from TOP of your radiotor to the engine. It's usually on the engine side of the hose. MAKE SURE YORU ENGINE IS COOL AND NO PRESSURE INSIDE THE HOSE. If the hose is soft there should be no pressure. I usually unplug the hose with a small container or whatever under to catch any coolant. Remove the host on the engine side, make sure you look at the orientation of the thermo and replace it back with correct side up. You can google how to replace thermostat also :-) You can should be able to do it within 30 min :-)
