my mercury tracer has 180,00 on it.it has no accleration when i'm getting on the freeway.has hard time climbing hills.but seems no problem though on even roads.you think it needs overhaul?it doesnt smoke though.im not getting any fault codes.it doesnt sputter or anything.its just a struggle when you are getting on the freeway or up hills.it helps a bit when i put it on low gear but its such a strain on the engine.you think maybe i have a clogged catalyctic ? or just one of the cylinder maybe has low compression? also would it be cheaper to just buy a new engine?or overhaul is still cheaper?

My advice is get the exhaust system checked for excessive backpressure to rule out the Cat and also have the throttle position sensor/MAF/MAP sensors checked out to include a fuel pressure check-
