clutch has been stiff and now I can't even engage?

It sounds like there is an issue with the clutch release bearing and the pressure plate. That's why you are having difficult time engaging the gear.

When you change the clutch, you need to replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing. Typically you can get these as a set. These clutch kits runs around $150.00 - $200.00.
Replacing the clutch will require you to raise the vehicle and secure it with stands.
