1984 Mercury Tracer cvc axle

I need to replace the right cvc boot on the outside. I got the hub and rotor away from the axle but I don.t know how to get the axle out of the trans-axle housing? Do you have to pry it out? A tug on the axle didn't free it and I didn't what to hurt the inside boot by jerking to hard. Thanks in advance.

Yes, they are stubborn. I usually use a prybar for this job. Be careful not to harm any seals or the boot when doing this.
