2001 Mercury Station Wagon

This morning when I went to open the drivers door,I unlocked it,but it was frozen shut.While pulling on the handle,my son tried to unlock it again.Once the door was open,I went to close it and it just bounced off the latch and didn't close.Is there a simple trick to reset the door latch?

Thanks for the donation.

You will need to slide the latch back into place using a flat bladed tool such as a flat screwdriver. While using the tool to pull the latch back into place on the door, have someone else pull on the outer door handle as if they were opening the door. This will allow the latch to fall down into position easily.
