Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Mercury Station Wagon 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 114k miles

Vehicle runs fine. With over 114k should I consider changing the timing chain, and, how involved is a timing chain repalacement, i.e, time and money.

Hello,

Honestly, I wouldn't worry to much about the chain. There are less problems with chains then belts.

However, if it concerns you then you may want to concider having it done.

The enovlement is that the front of the engine has to come off. It is about a days job and will run in the area of $1,000 - $1,200 or so. And that will depend on if it is a DOHC Engine or not. If not then it should only run about $500 - $600 or so.
