My husband was driving his car and knows nothing about cars. He said that the battery light came on, kept driving. Engine light came on, he turned around and than the coolant started smoking. He pulled over looked inside and found that the serpentine belt had snapped and the idler pulley had a bad bearing causing it to snap. Yesterday I replaced the pulley and the belt and now the engine won't turn over. It starts to act like it will and than just won't. Please help.

It is a 1997 Mercury Sable, V6 3.0 engine-104,000 miles.

Thank you

We have tried pushing the gas pedal all the way down and it starts to go and than just won't turn over all the way. We looked into if there was any foam and things which is usually the tell tale sign that the head gasket was blown, but there was nothing. Anyway to test to see if the head gasket is blown?

Thank you So much,
