possible bad door sensor

1997 mercury sable overhead valve 134,000 miles.
after putting car in drive and going the doors are supposed to lock automatically. well, mine doesn't and the door ajar light in dash panel stays on and also the dome light stays on. how can i fix this or is it a problem only dealership can fix?

actually it is working now but it has done this before where it will work for awhile then quit again. so eventually it will quit again. any help will be appreciated. thanks

You don't have to use those particular chemicals, for that matter I just use a thin lubricant that is comparable to wd-40. Just spray the latches on the doors liberally, open and shut the door about 15-20 times and you are done.
