I have a 99 Mercury Sable 86,000. about 2 weeks ago it died on the highway, the issue was the auto computer was fired. My mechanic got another one, and put it in $500 & 2 days later it was fine.
Then yesterday same thing happened I was driving on the highway, and suddenly I started losing speed. While I was waiting for the tow truck, I kept trying to start it and it wouldn't turn over. But I noticed the clock was blinking 12, and for some reason my wipers started coming on.
My Mechanic says it's an electrical issue, great guess!! Anyone have any clues?

I experienced a somewhat similar trouble some time back. Parked 99 Sable and all fine. Returned 10 minutes later and would not start. Every time the ignition switch was cranked the wipers would start up by themselves. The radio worked, the console lights lit up normally, the horn worked. Seemed like a major short of some type. Had the car towed to the dealer and found that the battery had gone bad. New battery resolved trouble. Had I known it was so simple could have saved more than a few bucks.
