I have 1998 Mercury Sable with 139,000 miles. Transmission was rebuilt at 132,000. Started experiencing problems that pointed to transmission going out again, i.e. engine would rev upon acceleration but take a while to engage. Took it to shop and they replaced 7 brake light bulb ( 3 in third brake light and 2 each on right and left side brake lights). They said the bulbs were bad ( they were all working the last I checked) so they replaced the bulbs and claimed this would fix the problem. Just picked car up and seems to be ok, but am still leery of their explanation that bad brake light bulbs could affect performance of transmission.
