1997 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 190 k miles

What year,s tran,s will interchange I have a 1988 sable tran,s will it fit .

This car could have 2 possible transmissions. You could have the AX4S or the AX4N. This is stamped into both the bottom pan and the side pan.

If you have the AX4S, you can use any AX4S transmission from 1993 to 1999 as long as it is from the SAME type engine. (If you have a 3.0 engine, a 3.8 transmission will not fit - different bellhousing bolt pattern).
If you have an AX4N, 1994 to 1999 should fit just fine.

Taurus and Sable share the same body, engine, and transmission. Windstar may also fit, but I cannot say for sure.
