Electrical problem
1999 Other Mercury Models V8 Automatic 121000 miles

Several times in the past few weeks I have had all the dash baord lights and stuff shut off in my car while drivivng. It runs excelent when this isn't happening. I have the battery and allternator tested and they are reaaly good. We can not figure out what the problem could possibly be.

Has the check engine light come on? Also, have you checked fuel pump pressure? Finally, does the car start right back up when this happens?

Sorry I had so many questions. I'm just trying to eliminate some things. I was refering to the fuel pump pressure, but this sounds more electrical. First, we need to start at the power source. Are the battery terminals clean and tight? Also, check the ground to the engine block, positive to the starter, and the condition of the battery cables themself. For everthing to shut down, you are loosing total connection at some point.

Let me know what you find. Also, will it only start when it is jumped?
