1980 Other Mercury Models 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Manual 30,000 miles

we have a 1929 mercedes grisellekit car 1980 bobcat motor mercury .we changed out the fuel pump but wont stay running long the car had been sitting for two years before i buoght it.the cellinoid seems a little warm and i am not sure if maybe the carburator needs a cleaning or not someone help me please

that has the holley(weber design) carb on it and there are a few weaknesses. the accelerator pump goes bad and the needle and seat is probably clogged from sitting so long. there also is a diaphragm that leaksoff of the decel valve connected to the intake below the carb. if you get it started stick you finger at the bottom of it and if it leaks vacuum you need a new diaphragm. I would suggest you overhauling the carb or upgrading toa 32/26weber to give you a little more power.
